A few months ago, we covered Microsoft’s WebMatrix Beta. Earlier this week, the platform released version one.
If you’re at all interested in .NET development, WordPress develop, or PHP development, and you’re running a Windows-based machine, WebMatrix is definitely worth a look.
Up to this point, Visual Studio and its Express Editions have been the traditional way to get into .NET-based web application development, but WebMatrix is providing a totally new approach.
- WebMatrix ships with a development environment, web server, and database system.
- The environment makes it much easier to get acclimated to writing well-formed markup, styles, and JavaScript before getting deep in with database.
- WebMatrix has support for a number of open-source applications such as DotNetNuke, Umbraco, WordPress, Joomla!, and more
- For those of you that are interested, WebMatrix can integrate with Visual Studio.
Though I no longer do much .NET development, I’m impressed.
