Here’s a great list of examples covering social media governance and policies by a wide range of businesses.
If you’ve been looking for some help, guidance, or examples, this would be the place to start. I personally don’t know of any ministries that have an explicitly outlined policy although where I work we have had some verbal counsel and coverage through our all-staff meetings.
Is this something your ministry or organization is going to be developing in the coming months? Do you see a need for one? Why or why not?

We have a lite written policy on both blogging and social media usage. Basically we ask our team to keep their personal accounts in line with the values of the church, and we warn them about the legal liabilities you have when you blog. I'd like to have a more comprehensive policy eventually, but we've not really seen the need for it yet.

These are definitely needed in churches – I'm currently working on a whole media ministry program (to include social media) for our church. It's a lot of work and I'm not even a staff person just a volunteer.

Makes sense. It makes sense because social media/social networking CAN bring controversy and things CAN get out of control. So like everything, the guidelines are there to keep you on track.
