Earlier this week, I stumbled across two interesting posts.
One was a published email by Alex Hillman thanking one of his primary sources of inspiration in the web development space. Another was the same question posed to the Forrst community and it generated some seriously good feedback.
I know that we’re all oriented in different levels of development here – some focused on the web, some focused on desktop software, others on mobile devices, and so on. Regardless, we all have others that have motivated or inspired us in some capacity.
So here’s the open thread: who do you consider some of your main sources of motivation and/or inspiration when it comes to your development career or hobby?

I have some really wacky dreams that give me all kinds of ideas about projects and layouts I would’ve never otherwise found.
Besides that, I would say that certain video games I’ve played help me remember that no matter how technical my work is, it needs to be “entertaining” enough that people can stand to use it.

I can definitely relate to the dreaming. And yeah, it’s funny where we can find inspiration for what we do – games, movies, shows, or even something as seemingly trivial as a printed publication.

I love reading more business-oriented success stories and geekery, like on TechCrunch.com, Gizmodo.com, http://37signals.com/svn, etc.
I am usually more inspired by the “what”, than the “how”.

Agreed, though the how sometimes gets me especially if its with a new platform and/or technology.
Big fan of 37signals.
