I’ve written here before about how as humans we need to get off our phones more, and how that came to a head for me as a picture-taking addict. In the video below John Green talks about the evolution of taking pictures / videos and reminds viewers that even with all that cameras are today, they still don’t see everything. And yet, we’ve all become addicted to taking pictures.
Taking pictures has become a way not only to document life, but to tell a version of our own life stories, and whatever goes undocumented doesn’t even feel like a part of our stories anymore. As if taking a picture or video is the only way for anything to be real in our lives.
John On What Cameras Do And Don’t See
What a great reminder to live, and know that even if you’re not taking a picture of it, that you’re still living. It still happened. You still lived.
I hope this helps you rethink your approach to how you live. Maybe it will also help you rethink how church / organisations strategy when it comes to live events. Maybe think about ways of encouraging people to be more present, in life, faith, worship and devotion.
The risk of seeing everything through a camera is that you miss everything the camera doesn’t see – John Green
