The Western Evangelical Church’s obsession with eschatology has grown about out of bounds. Eschatology is important, but the focus should not be on trying to prove one view over another, nor should the focus be on the devastation of God’s wrath. The focus should be on the anthem of the kingdom we find ourselves in: Jesus wins!
In this short but compelling book, Hartman walks the reader through the mainstream views of eschatology without playing favorites. He explains each, provides information on what scholars to look to for more in-depth analysis of that particular branch, and then moves on to the next.
It was informative without being polemical, which I found quite refreshing. I especially loved Hartman’s conclusion that we should stop dividing Christ’s Church according our views of eschatology and should instead be united around the fact that we belong to Jesus, our soon-coming, victorious King.
Jesus Wins: The Good News of the End Times is not a textbook. It’s not designed to be. It’s a primer and a corrective. You would do well to read it. Maybe even use it as a guide in teaching. It would especially be good in a small group/more informal context.
