Social media is not new anymore, but what was once called social media when it was first created is no longer the same thing now. If you find someone calling themselves a guru, be careful. I personally don’t trust them, the platforms are shifting too frequently for you to be an expert in everything called social media. It’s like seeing someone who says they can make you a million dollars in the stock market. Do they exist? Yes, but they probably are not going to charge you $29.95 a month with a $250 contract violation fee and a no-guarantees clause. It’s just shady.
So with the infographic below, learn from it, but don’t wholesale adopt it.
Here are three mistakes from the infographic below I think you really need to be careful of.
- Not having a social media strategy is the key one. As it states in the infographic, it’s like posting blindly. For me, it’s a shotgun effect or ADHD with social media. You try stuff out, no traction. You do something great, but don’t know how to reproduce it. You’re pastor asks if you are being successful and you just do not know how to community a yes or no. Get a strategy.
- Too many platforms means you are going to be not focusing on making one great and then growing. Instead, you will find yourself reposting the exact same content on all platforms, and let’s be honest, I don’t need to follow the same content everywhere. Figure out how to use one or two mediums really well before you think about expanding.
- I’m combined #4 and #5. Talk about yourself too much, be irrelevant, and use too many hashtags. Basically, you are doing stuff for you, not for your audience. Stop it, just stop it.

We definitely are not perfect on ChurchMag with them, but I try to keep it up!
