I’ve written previously that I think the iPad could be the wii of personal computing, where I talked about the ability of touch screen computing devices to bridge the digital divide for our elderly.
So it thrilled me to discover this article in The Oregonian, profiling a 99 year old iPad owner totally rockin it high tech.
Ladies and gents, meet the inspirational Mrs. Virginia.
Her daughter is quoted as saying, “The thing that’s so neat is there’s nothing between you and the screen,” and also, “You can enlarge the print, and it has a much brighter screen so you can read on it more easily than with a regular computer screen.”
Campbell actually wrote a tribute in appreciation of her new-found freedom from the frailties of old age.
To this technology-ninny it’s clear
In my compromised 100th year,
That to read and to write
Are again within sight
Of this Apple iPad pioneer.
I’ve often felt that technology is wasted on the youth of today, but I’m glad to see that that’s not always the case!
