If you’re a developer, then you’re either satisfied with your current development environment or you’re still on the look out for the perfect setup.
With the variety of operating systems, browser innovations, and platforms now available, there are a seemingly endless array of options from which to choose to help you get your work done.
Mashable recently covered eight applications for web developers five of which I’ve highlighted below out of personal experience or recommendation of fellow developers:
- Smart Git is a Git front-end that makes it easy – especially for beginners – begin working with their codebase in the Git source control system.
- CSS Tidy is a simple utility that cleans up your CSS and strips out unnecessary characters and whitespace leaving you with cleaner, smaller stylesheets.
- Transmit is arguably one of the best (if not the best) FTP application for the Mac. It supports FTP, SFTP, and Amazon S3.
- MySQL Workbench is a free, cross-platform utility to drawing out database schemas. It’s a little more than what I use (but then again, I tend to use pen and paper) but it’s still a solid application and serves its purpose well.
- Snippets is another Mac application that provides a way for you to collect and manage frequently used source code, ahem, snippets.
