I’m excited.
With the recent release of a number of mobile applications that allow live-streaming of content through some of the more used devices, such as the recent UStream.tv iPhone App (iTunes Link), now anyone can live-stream an event (or sermon or service) from anywhere and bring the front-row party to thousands.
Although the quality settings right now are limited to 320×240 pixels and we can probably expect some pretty grainy-looking live-streams for now, expect the quality to simply increase in the coming time.
But something inside me yells “revolution” as these technologies become easier to use, easier to manage, and easier to distribute. I imagine in a short while seeing tweets on my timeline saying things like:
Come join me in service today, http://bit.ly/xxxx (I’m in the 3rd row on the right!)
or
Join us for our Elder Meeting Live, http://bit.ly/xxx (Sorry you can’t be here!)
or a number of different things, all from differing perspectives, all bringing community and communication a little closer to home.
We’ll be able to share our unique experiences with more people and more people will be able to experience it with us. More personalization will occur and invitations to others to join us in worship and service may become a bit easier for others.
I couldn’t be more excited about mobile-video technology maturing and for those that have already begun exploring, keep it up; mobile technology has been, for me, one of those few techs that have been unable to keep up with my accelerated imagination for use.
But it’s catching up and I love it.
What are you excited about in terms of mobile video? What are you hoping the tech geniuses of silicon valley are going to cook up in 2010?
And what has video been unable to do that you’ve been imagining for some time?
