“Good” blogging needs some strategic thinking but it doesn’t necessarily have to start that way. The vast majority of people start blogging because they feel they have something to say. Their goal is simply to express themselves.
Over time, though, a few may increase in readership and traffic and then an “Aha” moment occurs; then the wheels start turning.
Reading ProBlogger’s post the other day about how “Every Blogger Starts at Zero” was a great reminder as well as encouragement that great blogging takes time. I don’t care if you’re the smartest and most strategic person on the planet, and unless you’re already famous, you’re just going to start from zero.
In addition, I really like how my faith frees me up from the pressures of the world to be popular or wealthy from blogs. It’s not that I’m against this at all, but my hope isn’t found in those things primarily.
My goals for my blogs is not what they are but what they do, and specifically how they help others. And I’m honestly never quite sure what the impact will be.
No goals? No worries (at least not today…!).
