Use Google Events for your Next Tweetup

google_eventThe Google Friend Connect Event addon is something to see, and is definitely something I think I’d consider if I was organizing a local Tweetup (or perhaps something even bigger?).

If you’ve got Google Friend Connect already installed, it’s as easy a few more button clicks to get this thing setup as well. Copy the embed code and you’re good to go.

What’s nice about this particular widget is that you can not only see who’s coming, but you can have all the deets right there on the widget, the time, location, as well as a functional map.

I think the mapping aspect is huge, especially for people who stink at directions (like me).

Check out the sample site for a feel (the screenshot to the right is from the sample site) and then let me know if you’re going to use it (or if you’ve already used it).

Again, I’d love to see someone use this for a local Tweetup…! If you’re interested in something simpler, try Twtvite.

Here’s a demo vid of how it all works as well:

I'm really digging on EventBrite. They provide similar features, plus the ability to promote and refer other events and make a small commission. You can also sell tix through them and they keep a small percentage. If your event is free, your listing is free. The advantage Google Events has is the Google Friend Connect social aspect. That's pretty cool, but I'm not using that hardly at all. Not more than Facebook. Thanks for the heads up on this, though, John.

eVite still dominates the "market" on this sort of stuff. It's too hard to get my friends to leave it in favor of using something like Google Calendar Event invites. Especially since many of them aren't Google users. (They don't care how sleek and functional it is…)

I haven't checked out the integration into Google Friend connect, but just from browsing what you've shown it looks pretty rad.
