Qgiv, a leading online fundraising platform, recently sorted through 1,000+ churches and nonprofits donor data to better understand the most generous donors.
It’s important to understand who is giving online, so you can make sure your donor gateway doesn’t get in the way or, better yet, make it easier.
First, here is a basic profile of Qgiv’s most ideal giver:
“Name: Dennis
Interests: Volunteering with local nonprofits, grassroots advocacy, and transparency
Three things I can’t live without:
- My iPhone
- Coffee
- My MacBook
The Most Personal Thing I’m Willing to Admit: I’m a night owl. I’m also a sucker for simple donation pages. I start losing interest if they’re too long or complicated.”
Well that was fun … Dennis. 😉
Unless you only want to engage with donors by the name of Dennis, I recommend we dig a little deeper into Qgiv’s findings:
- Desktop users consist of 90% of donations.
HoweverHOWEVER, and that should be a BIG however, mobile fundraising is rising more and more everyday! If you’re not keeping your mobile users in mind today, you will suddenly find yourself losing out on a huge percentage of donors tomorrow. - Most donors make their gifts late in the evening. I don’t know if people are too busy to do this during the day or this is when they balance their checkbook (do people still do this?), but that’s what Qgiv’s findings show. Nonprofits processed more donations between 10-11:00pm. So, you might want to rethink when you should send out that donor campaign email.
- Keep it simple. This isn’t going to change your world, it’s nothing new, but it’s true. Simple donations pages are the most effective. If your current donation page isn’t easy, seriously consider making a switch. Even if it costs more per month, in the end, you’re net donations will be higher.
Does your church, ministry or nonprofit website have a donation page?
Leave a link to it in the comments below and we’ll come take a look at it and tell you what we think about it.

Our giving page is as simple as can be: a button to donate through paypal. We hardly get nag donations through it yet, but that’s mainly because of a lack of awareness, I think. I’m going to implement YouVersion live events soon, which hopefully will include a link to donate via PayPal. http://graceisgood.org/give

Hey, that’s cool!
Having a ‘GIVE’ button on your main menu is a great place to start. 🙂

Eric,
Love the new look of the Church Mag blog. WeShare is being used by more than 650 churches and non-profits and have recently made an upgrade. Here is a church using it. http://accdoc.org.
We always take feedback from our customers, but would like to hear some feedback from everyone else.
Thanks,
Keith
