Big news yesterday. Very big.
It’s been announced that the H.264 Video Codec is now royalty-free, which is a huge win for HTML5 adoption across the interwebs.
What does this mean? It means that sites like YouTube and Vimeo won’t go bankrupt because of licensing fees to serve videos on to the web.
The world rejoices.
Adobe, the owner of the Flash technology, is in a bit of a pickle. I imagine that with this move they’re going to have to jockey for positions of just deep interactivity on the web instead of mass-consumed video content and such.
Long live free software.
