Recognize this screw?
According to a reddit user “thrownawayyesok”, Apple redesigned their screws in a way that makes it more difficult for independent repair shops to fix Apple’s devices. The screws feature asymmetric design which makes them less usable in conventional ways.
This post was going to be about this weird new screw, but it turns out, it was a fake.
As reported by TNW,
As it turns out, the asymmetric screw was created by Day4, a firm that specialises in motion graphics. In a blog post entitled “How we screwed (almost) the whole Apple community,” Day4′s Lukasz Lindell explains why they decided to tease a mockup of the new screw on Reddit, watching on with interest to see if it would spread virally.
And it did.
The Day4 team brought up a good point, saying that when big sites like Yahoo!, Wired and Macworld cover a story, readers feel no reason to doubt.
They also offered this “rumour matrix,” which I found accurate and slightly humorous for some weird reason:
In the famous words of Abraham Lincoln, “The problem with quotes on the Internet is that you can’t always be sure of their authenticity.”
Have you seen this occur in religious circles?
I would love to hear your thoughts about this screwy story …

I think Abe had a really good point. In the words of the great John Wesley “HTML5 needs a fact checker.” Good post keep it up.

It’s funny how that graphic applies to people’s perception of the Bible.

And by funny, I mean sad.
