This is the TweetingSeat.
It was created by Product Designer Chris McNicholl at the University of Dundee, UK.
How Does It Work?
The seat travels around the country and will spend a day in various locations. Every time someone sits on the seat the seat will live tweet 2 photos.
One photo will be of the people sitting on the seat, this is taken with a camera disguised as a bird box hiding nearby. The second photo is the view from the seat of the surrounding area. This is taken through the eye of the little twitter bird built into the seat!
Why TweetingSeat?
About the seat, the designer, Chris McNicholl says:
TweetingSeat has been created in order to explore the environments in which it is placed and look at the people whom it encounters. The way in which the bench should be used has purposely been left open, allowing people and communities to build their own relationship with it.
I personally think that it is a very interesting concept and experiment and definitely works well as an “art” piece. As for everyday use either as just a TweetingSeat or some other tweeting object, I’m not 100% sure if it is going to take off as an everyday thing. I just can’t see it having an everyday use, it is much more of a gimmicky type setup.
However, saying that, I am open to be wrong, and I would love to know your thoughts in the comments about how you would use this type of technology?
