I was browsing Facebook recently and I came across an ad for Quip. Usually I detest Facebook ads and quickly skim by them. But there was something intriguing about Quip. So I reached out to them, they checked us out, and decided against their usual policy by sending me a test unit.
The product?
A toothbrush.
The Gear
Once the package arrived, I unpacked the package. In it contained one electric brush, an extra head, a three month tube of paste, and a two week tube as well. Quip aims to be a service rather than a product, offering users to subscribe to replacement heads every three months. They claim that regular brush maintenance is a pillar to good oral hygiene.
To be up front, I’ve never used an electric toothbrush before, but this seems like a premium brush. It has a substantial weight in the hand and feels solid, not plasticy like other brushes I’ve used. The packaging was minimal and pleasant, and looked great across the different pieces that were sent out.
The brush came with a holder that adheres to a mirror for easy storage while simultaneously flaunting your new toy. Who doesn’t love that?
The Experience
As I mentioned before, this is the first electric brush I’ve used, but compared to “traditional” methods, I found using Quip’s brush to be very enjoyable. I’ve known for a long time the recommended time for brushing is two minutes. It sounds like a long time to spend curating your cuspids, but Quip makes it easy by adding a 30 second pulse timer into their brush. This lets you know to switch to a different area of your mouth, allowing you to brush all four quadrants in a two minute period! The best part, it doesn’t even feel like a long time. I’ve never timed myself before…maybe I was brushing for longer before? I don’t know.
In addition, they recommend using the back of the brush to brush your tongue when you’re finished with brushing your teeth. I don’t think any toothbrush in the world can make that process any easier for me personally, but it’s nice that they included it for those who are less “gaggy“.
Once you’ve finished, just pop the brush back into the holder and you’ve survived (maybe even enjoyed?) another tooth brushing!
Conclusion
For those of us whose health can take a backseat, we need tech and services to give us a little helping hand. With Quip, I found help in an often neglected area. The push beyond a product into a service is where Quip really shines, and the service has the products to make it a very enjoyable experience.
I’m very thankful for Quip, for their review units, and I highly recommend checking them out here.
