We all want to get stuff done, and get it done as easy as possible.
In your quest for productivity, you might have found a “hero” you wish you were as productive as. You study his or her tools and systems; you spend time implementing those tools on your workflow; you try hard to maintain the system… and you fail.
Why?
There might be a simple answer: Those tools don’t suit you.
This is definitely not the case for everyone, but it can be a very elemental issue that many of us try to ignore and push back.
Because everyone is using Evernote, right? So you’ve been trying for a year and it just doesn’t click. The problem must be you. You download more guides, watch more videos, and create the exact amount of notebooks your favorite productivity guru has. You keep trying and you keep failing. You adjust and fail again.
I’m sorry to rain on your parade, but it’s likely that Evernote is just not going to work for you. And that’s OK.
This happened to me with paper planners. Oh, how I love the look of paper planners. I could spend hours just looking at pretty pictures on Pinterest or Instagram.
I’d buy a new planner every year. And I’d end up with a barely used paper planner by December.
No matter how much I liked the idea of being a paper planner user, I had to admit I wasn’t one. Don’t even get me started on Bullet Journals. All those tools are beautiful, but they simply aren’t for me.
With heartache, I went completely digital… and productivity was my reward.
Are you holding on some tool that’s just not working for you?
Do you simply like the idea of using it, or is it really helping you be more productive?
You might have take some time to adjust to some tools to fit in your productivity system, and that’s great. What you need to be careful about is forcing something just because you like the idea of it. It’s probably just making you drag it around instead of pushing you towards getting stuff done.
