It’s fair to say that between the most recent round of smartphones – iPhone, Android, and Palm – that Palm is the one that’s bringing up the back of the line.
It a lot of things can be said about the device (especially since the transition to HP), but that doesn’t mean that the device isn’t packing any power.
Especially now that 3D gaming is available…
Its amazing that you can read your Bible from your cell phone.
The development of “apps” for mobile devices have made it possible to be able to access your bible right in the palm of your hands. It is not an uncommon sight to scan the audience of a church service and see more cell phones out then Bibles.
People have taken advantage of this technology and have turned a device that use to just let you make calls into a place to get fed from the word daily.

By now most of you have probably heard about how Hewlett Packard is purchasing Palm for the tune of 1.2 billion dollars.
It a pretty startling price with an even more startling move for HP, and any company for that matter. HP has mentioned that it’s move is motivated in large part by Palm’s WebOS operating system, not it’s physical smart phones.
I find this a flawed and obviously short-sighted because the consumer wants not only an effective operating system but something that simply looks good in their hands: A good looking product.
A perfect example of this is the new iPad, which, for many reasons, is simply a larger iPhone; yes, it’s so darn sexy and it looks amazing, and the Church could learn a thing or two here…

Functionally though, this BETA isn’t much to hurray about since it’s quite limited in it’s first release:
Functionality is limited to what is possible on our mobile website. This beta release is a simple embedded browser that makes accessing our mobile website (http://m.youversion.com) quick and easy.
We have big plans for future iterations of this application to bring it from “beta” stage to a full-featured native YouVersion Bible app.
But that’s just today. I’m sure tomorrow they’ll release v2 that’ll make me want to drop my iPhone in a bucket of cold water.
… Hmm. Maybe not that far, but you get the point.
