How Kids Use Tablets [Infographic]

As a parent of a five-year-old boy, I know from experience how much kids love tablets. My son plays with my iPad all the time and he can easily select and play various games of his choice. He loves playing Angry Birds and he’s getting the hang of Airmail.

He was actually quite upset when the YouTube app disappeared with the latest iOS update, because it’s a lot harder for him to watch videos now. For him, using a tablet is completely intuitive. The Power of Disconnecting

No matter which words you use to describe the current times and culture, the word ‘connected’ keeps popping up. This day and age, we are constantly connected to others via cell phones, social media and whatnot, often in more than one way at the same time.

Some of us can handle being constantly connected better than others, but I think we can all agree that it has changed our lives considerably. The fact that we have become ‘available’ almost 24/7 has had an enormous impact on our lives.

You just need to go out for dinner to see examples: dad is checking his email, while mom is texting a friends and the kids are playing with their iPads. Being connected has in some ways harmed our real life connection to other people. [Read more…] about The Power of Disconnecting

Review: iOS Podcast App

It’s no secret that I like Apple products. Maybe that’s is an understatement, but they work for me.

I also love podcasts. I listen to them almost exclusively. I’ve been podcasting, myself, on and off since 2005, so I know a thing or two about the medium.

So what does the guy who “literally wrote the book on church podcasting” think about the iOS Podcast app? This review might seem late since the app came out several months ago, but I think it hasn’t been ready for review until very recently.

When Apple announced the Podcast app, I was hoping that it meant that podcasts would be given a special place in iOS. Hopefully, the app would make it easy for new users to discover podcasts and subscribe for themselves.

I really wanted the app to solve some of the problems that I had using Music app. Before Apple added wireless syncing and iCloud, connecting to iTunes from time to time was fine. That ship has sailed now. I don’t want to connect my iPhone to my computer except in the most dire circumstances or for an update.

When iOS 5 was announced was how they were going to deal with podcasts. Apple’s answer is the podcast app.
