Apple’s Keynote: iOS 7 and Tons More

ChurchMag isn’t an Apple fanboy blog, but we do appreciate excellence and innovation. I think it’s a reasonably fair statement that Apple has demonstrated a great deal of that over the years.

Yesterday, Apple announced a new line of MacBook Airs, teased a new Mac Pro, and demonstrated enhanced and redesigned versions of OS X and iOS. Everything looks pretty sweet in my humble opinion. (You can watch the keynote for yourself here.)

Personally, I super excited about the new look of iOS 7. It’s a long overdue redesign, and I think that designers could learn a lot from its simplicity.

Of course, nothing is safe from criticism. Some at WWDC noted that it appeared as if Apple was taken a little inspiration from Android and webOS. It’s an even-handed criticism, but I don’t care—I’m too excited! Check out this sweetness!

4 Tips for iPad Tethering on the Road

I’ll admit it: now that I’m on my second iPad, I’m never going back. Combine that with LTE tethering, and my ministry travel for April was a breeze.

I was in Chicago, Washington DC, and Detroit for 2.5 weeks during April with the need to work on the road the entire stretch. Sure I had wifi sometimes, but one hotel was going to be a $20 extra daily fee (the nicer places always get you!), and the Missio Alliance conference where I was representing Great Commission Ministries had public wifi for 800 attendees all at once. Eesh: good luck connecting or getting much throughput. Not that this is unusual: at the Verge Conference or Exponential or others, I’ve usually found the available wifi to be iffy at best.

Felt App – Handwritten Cards are Back!

I used to be a huge fan of the old hand written card, but it seems like more and more I’m too pressed for time to write that card.  Or I forget about a friend’s birthday until 2 days before, run to Hallmark to score a semi-funny card…write all my sentimental birthday thoughts, go to the post office and buy a book of stamps even though I only need one (didn’t I just buy a book a month ago…wonder where that book is??) Then finally address the card and mail it…only to find out that the mail has already come for the day from my mailbox and it will just sit in there until tomorrow when it gets picked up at 4pm.  And thus won’t make it to my friend in time.
