If you’ve never heard of Steam, it’s a PC/Mac gaming portal (like an iTunes App Store) that gives its users instant access to over 1,100 games that can be purchased, downloaded and played from any computer. There is also a community you can engage in, chat with friends while gaming, get automatic game updates and best of all, enjoy Steam-only special offers that included low prices and free-play weekends.
With a soon to be released mobile app, users will be able to purchase new game releases and special offers straight from their iPhone or Android, something that previously could only be done from the Steam desktop app.
If those in support of SOPA/PIPA were really interested in stopping piracy, they would follow Steam’s lead.

When mobile apps became a “must have” just a few years ago, only the largest churches and nonprofits could afford the $30,000 plus price tag to hire a firm to build a custom mobile app. Because the majority of nonprofits can’t afford that kind of price tag, ROAR is now releasing their own app-building CMS to help nonprofits and churches afford their own iPhone and Android apps for a fraction of the cost.
“Our goal is to enable each nonprofit and church we work with to reach into the community and into the pocket of every person to encourage, connect, and retain them as a customer and participant,” comments Matt McKee, president of ROAR. “With our new software, building a custom-looking mobile app for any organization is an affordable reality.”

It’s CES week!
CES is a geek’s dream, but also an innovation graveyard. So many ideas get bandied around, but not all make it to market. This particular idea has already made it to the consumer.

When it comes to to-do apps, I am EXTREMELY picky. I have to be, since my mind is a bit, well, flighty.
My preferred configuration has evolved over the years. My litmus test used to be the famed Datebk5 from Palm: desktop and handheld intertwining at its finest. Since then, I have gravitated to cloud functionality. I learned that it was best to get software that I have a reasonable chance of finding on other platforms, and also had a web component that allows me to access data from anywhere that has an internet connection.

As mobile devices become even more integral hubs, it’s not enough to just provide content; presentation is just as important.
We’ve all had some time to play with Google Currents, and if it does one thing well, it makes your favorite feeds look GOOD. Currents is a digital magazine that aggregates available feeds into one app with a tidy, effective UI.
