Have you ever thought about future packaging of the Bible? Have you ever wondered how generations before us could’ve imagined how the Bible could be packaged and presented?
Good Christ followers read their Bibles. Yes? Despite my access to it, there are times I don’t read it as much, as I would like, or ought to. Terrible things for a Christ follower to be saying in this time in history, right? If there is ever a time Christ followers can’t make excuses for not reading the Bible it is now. The Bible is more portable and accessible than it ever has in all history.
There are great mobile apps like YouVersion and Bible Gateway and potent study tools like Logos Bible Software. Having said this I’m convinced we haven’t exhausted the ways we can engage with it. Being in a multimedia age, we’re yet to discover other ways to interact with it. Imagine the Bible in virtual reality. Why not?
I applaud app developers, TV series creators and many others who’ve tried to make the Bible more accessible. It means more people get exposed to its message. I know I’m not the only one who benefits from their efforts.
No matter how long I’ve been a Christ follower, I can never outgrow the need for God’s Word. I have to do all I can to make sure that I’m hearing from God through His Word. This means a regular commitment to get Scripture in me. This is not always easy.
Sometimes, in search of “freshness” in my Bible I change translations. There are many decent translations available. For general devotion I sometimes find some paraphrase translations refreshing. Communicating the gist of a thought…
Something else I’ve tried in the past were some audio Bibles I endured. This is because of the monotone way they were read. It made the Bible dull and I going to say it, boring. No feeling. Psalms, which are usually pregnant with emotion, were rendered lifeless by the readers.
A resource I’ve found helpful recently is Streetlights Bible. This is the Bible read over urban / hip hop music. Yes, you read right… I love hip hop music and being able to hear the Bible read over that makes it easier for me to listen. The Bible is read with life. Engaging…
Audio Bibles, TV series and such… I have to do everything I can to get into the Bible. Especially remembering that it is God’s Word. While there are great initiatives like Bibliotheca to make engaging the Bible easier, there are also other methods yet to be explored. With technological advancements I can’t wait to see how else the Bible is going to be packaged.
I personally don’t think it will matter how it is packaged. (I’m obviously talking about ways that don’t violate the Bible). Don’t get me wrong, it should be packaged in a way that is engaging. I mean the means will not matter much as long as it helps to get into the Word. I can’t wait…
Besides reading, how else do you engage with the Bible? How else do you think the Bible could be presented / packed into the future?
