While the email client Inky didn’t work out for me, I believe it could be really awesome app for those using a different workflow than myself. I never knew I was such an email control freak until after I tried using such an easy-going email app like Inky.
But now I know — and knowing is half the battle.
Now on to the second half of the battle: Finding an email client that makes my email easier.
Postbox
It didn’t take long after wiring-up Postbox to my multiple Gmail accounts that I was going to enjoy trying it out. Postbox can be simple, don’t get me wrong, it’s not complicated. Postbox delivers much of what I like about using Gmail to my desktop, with the lovely option of being able to view a unified inbox, create rules (within the app, not via Gmail) and label messages.
Postbox also throws in some features that you can only find with a desktop email client, giving you the best of both worlds. They even have some cool plugins and addons that can heighten its power.
Not too shabby for a $10 app that is available for both OX X and Windows.
Postbox features include:
- Conversations Views — just like Gmail.
- Postbox Topics — this takes tagging to a whole new level.
- Great Gmail Support — labels, important, send, archive, shortcuts and the calendar!
- Quick Reply
- Integrates with Dropbox, so instead of attaching huge files, you just drag and drop from your Dropbox and it automatically translates it to a shared Dropbox link. #hawt
- Pretty Email Summary — it’s the little things. No more messy reply threads, it really is nice. 😀
- Track To-Dos — I know you shouldn’t use your email as a todo list, but somehow, Postbox pulls it off!
- Social Media Integration — update your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn status as well as auto-import profile photos for prettier email.
- Convert Email to Evernote — this feature caught me by surprise. While this wouldn’t have initially appealed to me, after using it, I love it!
- More!

I really enjoyed using Postbox, but since I unwittingly started trying desktop email apps, I think I’ll try a few more before throwing down my $10. As it stands, I would easily pay that much for Postbox.

Eric,
I’m glad you are reviewing these, I’m looking for a perfect solution and it sounds like we manage email similarly. I am using Activeinbox for work(google apps for nonprofit) email, Mailstrom for my personal Gmail, and Sparrow for my mobile connectivity so I can view both personal and work emails in one place.
Both Activeinbox and Mailstrom can be linked with multiple accounts, but to me they have different uses. Activeinbox lets you label your messages and set filters, you can also set priorities, tasks and even have a “waiting on file” to manage email you have responded to but are waiting for someone else to get back to you. My problem with Activeinbox is I haven’t trained myself to go back and review the scheduled events (today, coming up, waiting on) and I feel like I can’t keep on top of my email if it isn’t staring me in the face. Mailstrom was AWESOME for archiving a bunch of personal email fast. It scans your email and then gives you a digest where you can sort by sender/date etc but with a click of a button archive a bunch of email fast. (I cut my email in half in about an hour).
One last thing, I use unroll.me to manage all those pesky solicitation emails; it delivers a daily digest at the time I choose so instead of getting emails from Ebay, Grocery Store, AAA, pinterest etc I get one email showing me a preview of each of them, I can scan and delete about 20 emails a day very easily.
I look forward to more reviews and the perfect solution. Keep the great stuff coming!

Sounds like I’ll have to take a look at a few of those solutions. I will be reviewing another app soon, as I think I’ve FINALLY found one I like. 😀
