ChurchMag isn’t an Apple fanboy blog, but we do appreciate excellence and innovation. I think it’s a reasonably fair statement that Apple has demonstrated a great deal of that over the years.
Yesterday, Apple announced a new line of MacBook Airs, teased a new Mac Pro, and demonstrated enhanced and redesigned versions of OS X and iOS. Everything looks pretty sweet in my humble opinion. (You can watch the keynote for yourself here.)
Personally, I super excited about the new look of iOS 7. It’s a long overdue redesign, and I think that designers could learn a lot from its simplicity.
Of course, nothing is safe from criticism. Some at WWDC noted that it appeared as if Apple was taken a little inspiration from Android and webOS. It’s an even-handed criticism, but I don’t care—I’m too excited! Check out this sweetness!
What announcements from yesterday’s keynote are you excited about?

I happy that they’re finally adding parental controls to Safari on iOS. It’s long overdue.

Totally! It’s really about time.

Oh my goodness. Yesterday was solid for me. The Mac Pro was the real deal in my opinion. Seeing it side by side the current one was the kicker for me. Super surprised to say the least.
And yeah, there’s nothing new under the sun, so I’m not surprised they stole some inspiration from whoever yeah. I mean Apple is notorious for that, I mean, Steve Jobs quoted Pablo Picasso, saying “Good artist copy, great artist steal.”
iOS 7 will be awesome. I don’t think anyone will question it…hopefully.
Phil Schneider says
Good point, Marcus. Everyone steals, but Apple—or I should say Steve—sure does (did) whine about it when Samsung does it. Though, I guess I would argue that Apple steals (from everyone) with flaire, a la Ocean’s 11-13. Samsung steals from Apple with all the subtlety of a kid copying off the test the student two desk over.
But yeah, the new Pro looks like it will be absolutely awesome!

Ha! 🙂 Very true brother.

I was live-streaming commentary on the keynote and I went ga ga (mouth agape) when they said that the parallax effect was real and not a special effect. I know that doesn’t really “do” anything.
I read a lot of negative on Lifehacker and Gizmodo, but it all sounded like the “Why are they making an mp3 player? Apple’s a computer company,” or “It’s just a big iPod touch” criticism, so I’m looking forward to Apple knocking it out of the park with iOS 7.
Phil Schneider says
Great point, Paul. I think what Apple does best is underwhelm their critics in the Keynote, only to wow them on release.
Eric Dye says
All the hype and speculation is always the same. Very polarizing stuff. Having it in your own hands and using it is where the REAL test is. 😀
I could do without the new Mac Pro design, though. Meh.
Phil Schneider says
Yeah, I’m wondering if the redesign was some post-Steve angst. “Dad’s gone, and we’re in charge. No one can tell us what to do. “
