Retina displays are making their way on the scene, and although many applications have updated their interfaces to accommodate this, the World Wide Web will take quite some time before everyone is seeing the web via ‘HD.’
Have you seen your own website in high-res?
Here’s a little something that could really help your website meet the demands of Retina screens:
retina.js
Retina.js is simple and effective.
Here’s how it works:
When your users load a page, retina.js checks each image on the page to see if there is a high-resolution version of that image on your server. If a high-resolution variant exists, the script will swap in that image in-place.
The script assumes you use Apple’s prescribed high-resolution modifier (@2x) to denote high-resolution image variants on your server.
Without too much hassle, you can bring your website up to speed. You won’t need to redesign your website, you’ll just need to re-render your images, add Retina.js to the mix and drop in some new code and you’ll be all set.
