There a million reasons people move on from Blogger to WordPress, but for certified Google-holics like me, staying with Blogger became a geeky way to proclaim independence (yes, I do see the irony here, but work with me).
I started using Blogger way back when, because it became an easy way to get my blog going for free. As I became more immersed in Google’s ecosystem, it just made more sense to stay with Blogger… except for the fact that for some reason, Android’s Blogger port seemed to be the red-headed step-nephew of the whole franchise.
I have made tech-based decisions based on my personal type of finickiness before, so y’all shouldn’t be too surprised.
I finally moved my personal blog to self-hosted WordPress because the Android Blogger app was not up to par.
Don’t judge me.
I do a lot of blogging on the go. When I was on BlackBerry, I used the upload via email feature. It worked well, and I learned to format my emailed posts in a manner that made it look decent when published. I was happy to move on to Android and get a hold of what I was hoping to be great mobile applications that would make me a better blogger. But for some reason, the Blogger software for Android is almost abandon-ware (at the time of this writing, it hasn’t been updated since November 2011). It handles HTML in a dismal manner as far as I’m concerned, and it’s image formatting made me queasy. So, basically, it was just a memory keeper; I usually had to go in on my laptop to format and publish, which defeated the mobile blogging premise for me.
I contribute to three other blogs, all self-hosted WordPress entities, so I was able to compare both Android programs. WordPress was just cleaner, and regularly updated.
I am a minimalist at heart with regards to apps. If I can manage multiple sites with one program (Scope… hello!!!) then I am down. Toss in better customization and decent SEO tools, and I was sold. I had to make the move. One app for all, redundant non-performing applications are out.
The mobility of WordPress won me over. So there. Now, I need to find a cool theme.

Welcome to the world of WordPress. We’re here with open arms. I would highly suggest Standard Theme 🙂

Is there any other blogging theme?

Oh the irony… Blogger just updated its mobile/tablet apps: http://buzz.blogger.com/2012/11/new-and-improved-blogger-mobile-apps.html

Okay… now that is funny!!! LOL. just downloaded it. Much improvement… the UI is way better. And it seems the mobile posts retain WYSIWYG functionality (but not older posts) which irks me. I still get more overall functionality with WordPress and the mobile app.
The bigger takeaway is that Google reads my blog drafts, and acts on them. I finally have online juice… like Donald Trump!
