The word on the street is that there’s a lot of anger on social media, even to the point of verbal abuse.
But is that really the case?
This infographic shows the reality is a little different: a vast majority says that ‘people on social networks are mostly kind’.
What’s interesting however, is the notable difference in the experiences of teens and of adults on social networks.
Teen experience people as being less nice: 5% of the adults says that ‘people are mostly inkind’ on social media, but for teens, it’s 20%.
That may have to do with the fact that teens are more likely to engage in negative behavior on social media themselves, as the infographic clearly shows.
No wonder: Teens are of course likely to have contact with other teens and none of them have the maturity yet to handle online conflicts very well. Whereas adults tend to ignore negative behavior, teens engage far more often with possible negative outcomes.

The conclusion: teens are less mature than adults on social media.
Go figure.
