I work with teenagers every day and so I am always curious about how technology is impacting our lives. Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter impact ministry all of the time and for many youth workers, that is one of the first modes of communication to contact students. The other medium is texting (do not call, they won’t pick up the phone…).
Because of the enormity of these mediums, it is interesting to see how they are beginning to meld together. Social media is more and more being done from mobile devices instead of at home or school on desktops and laptops.
It should be noted that the infographic below is not completely age specific, so when it shows such a huge smart phone population, that does include adults who can pay for the data plan.
While the ages of those who are using social media currently are small, it is surprising that it is even that high and will only grow more so as popularity grows and social networks make it easier and more powerful to use mobile apps.

Do you think mobile phones are changing more than just social media?
