I don’t think Smartphones are secure, but I also think they are just the next thing in a long line of technology where people don’t understand (or even seek to find out!) the security risks. If people still aren’t secure with their personal computers that they’ve had for 15+ years, why would they bother to find out about their phones? Almost every day, I receive an e-mail or hear about a Facebook post that absolutely astounds me with people’s ignorance regarding security and privacy issues.
However, I also believe that, no matter how secure we seek to make our information, there is always going to be someone smart enough to figure out a way around it. One of Wired’s recent articles (around July 2011) about the “One Arm Bandit” who managed to hack slot machines is an excellent example. In the end, we all need to take reasonable measures to protect ourselves and our family and then trust God for ultimate protection.
