Like a modern day prophet (or should I say a Sidewalk Prophet?), Jon Acuff predicted that this would happen.
My first encounter with autotune in Christan music was Tripp & Tyler’s Listen, Listen, Listen. Of course, others have followed in more recent days like Fellowship Church’s ‘Hole ‘Nutha Level and Tripp & Tyler’s Bowlin’ (feauturing Chris Tomlin).
I will be honest, I have even given it a whirl myself. Don’t judge me, I have always wanted to be a singer but lacked the ability to sing. I guess that isn’t an issue anymore!
Awhile back, I downloaded this sweet Autotune Remix of How He Loves Us performed and produced by Matthew Phipps. I think I hit repeat at least 200 times.
You can listen to it and download it for free via PureVolume here.
While I was at Catalyst One Day (in Lynchburg, VA) this past week , I saw the most creative use of Autotune by Christians to date:
Instead of using it for laughs or even a song, I feel that it was used as part of an eclectic art piece that felt very mosaic.
Not to mention that it was for a noble cause.
What are your thoughts about autotune and Christianity?
Brandon Rowe says
Twitchy videos like these are great because they grasp your attention. The auto tune also adds to the coolness.
Blane Young says
“Twitchy” is a great word that I have never heard in describing videos like these but I am going to use it!
Yeah, I think anything autotuned is cool.
Like, I think if I ever got fired by someone using autotune, I would be like, “You are awesome!”.
