I love the Roku boxes. They are inexpensive, easy to set up and work with standard definition televisions, and support 1080p resolution.
Channels include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon VOD, MLB.TV, Pandora and many others.
Now, Roku is adding USB support to the mix. If you have the Roku XD-S (or the older Roku HD-XR), you can now watch video, listen to music and view images right from the box on your television. It supports the following formats:
- Video — MKV (H.264), MP4 (H.264), MOV (H.264), WMV/ASF (WMV9/VC-1)
- Music — AAC, MP3
- Photo — JPG, PNG
Since portable hard drives are so cheap, it would be sweet to be able to hide away CD’s, DVD’s and Blu-Ray discs and just rip them to a beefy 2TB drive which can be tucked away and have all that content in one location.
Do you own one or plan on getting one?

Hi Jay,
I’m actually already serving my media out using a NAS so that all my computers also have access to the data as well as the Roku. I use Roksbox as the channel to do it. However, it’s a private channel ($15).
