Although Parallels announced their v6.0 for Mac Desktop early this month it was only launched about a week or so ago.
For those that don’t know Parallels most simply allows you to use Windows apps on your Mac, and this release is a big step up with full support for 64-bit for the first time ever. 80+ new features are mentioned in some of their promo and marketing and up to 40% faster.
Here are some of the other note-worthy improvements:
- An all-new 64-bit engine
- 5.1 Surround Sound support
- Better import implementation of VMware, Virtual PC virtual machines and Boot Camp partitions
- Improved network, hard drive and Transporter performance
- Windows program Spotlight integration
- Faster Windows launch time
- Enhanced 3D graphics that are 40% better than previous versions
- Ability to extend Mac OS X Parental Controls to Windows applications
- Ability to use OS X keyboard shortcuts in Windows applications
- Enhanced Spaces and Exposé support
We’ve covered another software system as well, VMWare Fusion, which I personally use.
Which one are you a fan of?

I use VirtualBox personally – it’s fast and free! It doesn’t offer the same level of integration as vmware or parallels, but I only use windows for my bible software and browser testing in web development.
