Perhaps you missed the viral UK Blessing, which at the time of writing has over 2.7 million views. This song and video is a cover of Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Worship song based on the blessing in Numbers 6 but with vocals recorded from Churches all across the United Kingdom.
Here it is if you want to add to that view count:
Well, even if you missed the video, the Prime Minister of Great Britain didn’t. Not renowned for his faith, the leader of the UK government still saw the value of the song and understood its viral success.
In his letter addressed to Tim Hughes, the organizer behind the song, Boris Johnson wrote.
At a time when our churches are closed, I am filled with admiration to hear how you have used the power of music to bring together Christians of all denominations from across our United Kingdom.
“Your sensational singing masterpiece ‘The UK Blessing’ is truly uplifting and has touched millions around the world with its message of hope and its beauty.
“As we continue to protect our NHS and save lives, I know you are also leading efforts through your own church to support those in need in Birmingham and to befriend those who are feeling lonely or isolated at this time.
“So on behalf of the whole country, I just want to say a big thank you for all that you do.”
Boris Johnson
Let your light shine
To me, this is a real example of a Christian witness that shines a light in a dark time. It’s not denying the reality or seriousness of the situation but pointing to God and digging into sung prayer and actions that go along (Tim leads Gas Street Church, which has been delivering food packages to vulnerable people in the local community.)
More than just the UK Blessing?
There are other encouraging signs in the UK. Pete Greig, the head of the group 24/7 Prayer, shared a recent Facebook post highlighting the number of people tuning in to broadcast services and that more people are attending an online Alpha course (a course which introduces the basics of Christianity) than their previous in person events.
While we will have to wait to see the long-term fruit or whether this is just a flash in the pan (after all, recording a “view” for an online service may be the same as recording people who walk past the front door of a church) it is certainly better than numbers decreasing across the board.
Share your encouragement
While I’m sure all of us wished this terrible situation hadn’t occurred, we can nevertheless hope some good comes out of it. If you have some encouraging news from your church, share it in the comments below.

This is awesome. Praying that this time will see the voice, witness for Christ grow as the church continues to reach people and serve the least. This is just another small piece of the puzzle as the church is active in so many other ways and areas in the UK. Thanks for sharing Chris.
