Instagram is a huge platform and definitively one that your church should serious look at using if it isn’t. The strong visual component of Instagram, integration with Facebook and the mobile first approach has made it one of the stand out social networks out there. But, as Instagram doesn’t have the retweeting abilities of twitter or sharing of Facebook, it can be harder to get discovered compared with other social networks.
So how can you build a following?
Well in the video and inforgraphic below, Chris Burkard shares 16 tips he has found work. Why should you listen to him? Well he does have over two million follows (that’s a lot more than one for every day of the week).
I suspect that someone with that large a following might know a thing or two about Instagram.
Obviously, you need to be a bit critical of these and work out how they apply (or don’t) for you and your church, but there are some interesting ideas out in his video which add to the points above. Check it out below.

As I said before the video, these tips might not all be relevant to you. Fashion bloggers can get away with more selfies with outfits on, adventure photographers might want to focus more on using time lapses. Also working out which accounts you can get to repost your work might be trickier for a church. Still I’m sure using time lapses and slow-mo are great ideas that many people overlook when using Instagram. If that includes you, perhaps you should give them a try this week (especially as they are built into iPhones and you can get apps like hyperlaps on any platform.)
So are you ready to take your Instagram game to the next level?
Which tip do you think is the most valuable?
Which of Chris’s tips are you going to try out?

Chris, this is really great information! Instagram is one avenue that I’m frequently thinking about building engagement on, but most “how to” articles aren’t really all that manageable. This one is because I can look at each one of the tips and I can implement them. Which I will go do now 🙂

I think its good to try and experiment with one or two tactics at a time. Some of these massive lists can suffer from being overwhelming. I’d love to know how you get on. Oh and what your instagram account is. I’m ChrisJWilson
