I must confess, I have enjoyed the perks of reviewing Christian music for years that sometimes I take it for granted. I have been following Kristene DiMarco’s career from the moment I heard her perform in Bethel Music’s all-female ensemble, “You Make Me Brave.” The singer brought a breath of fresh air when she sang “It Is Well” on the record. Needless to say, her performance did not just stir up my spirit it also ignited my love for her voice and musical styling.
I had made a mental note that her project was in the works. Once the release date was announced I waited for a review copy of the CD to drop in my inbox (as usual). Unfortunately it never came. A day to the album release I stumbled on her single “I Will Follow You” on YouTube and immediately I knew I had to listen to the record.
So I got it.
Mighty
The album opens with the fantastic hymn-like tune “Jesus, Your Love.” The lyrics are very reassuring, and the warmness and comfort this song conveys is unmissable upon first listen. It basically warms you up for the rest of the record.
She continues with this wave of reassurance in “Eyes on You” where she sings about focusing on God through the ‘laughter and the pain.’
“Be Still” feels like a sequel to Steffany Gretzinger’s “Be Still.” Both tunes share the same well crafted conversational direction; whilst “Be Still” can be seen as a worship song addressed to God, it could also be identified as a tune addressed to one’s self/heart.
The album title track “Mighty” may not be my favourite track, but it is done with a truck-load of passion and energy and with the right message so I can’t fault it. She keeps declaring “Our God is Mighty… our God is mighty to serve…” and in no time you will find yourself chanting along.
“It Is Well” sure holds all the aces, because it is the song that introduced me to Kristene DiMarco, it is the song that touched my life so having it on the album typically placed it high above other songs. I love that she had the choir harmonising seamlessly.

The album is filled with lyrics that will really sink it. The incorporation of the little choir is just golden. The choir gives this record a different energy, one that you may not have heard in a Bethel Music or Jesus Culture record. If you are seeking a fresh experience—an encounter even—then “Mighty” is for you. The album is superb and I haven’t had the chance to listen to any other thing since.
