This is the twenty-second article in the series App of the Week series.
In May, I began the Evernote challenge and then last week shared what I loved about the experience so far, which included loving the iOS mobile app and for the past two weeks, I have been focusing on using this application intentionally. Here are our thoughts about the iOS app
The Good
The Evernote app is a great companion to the Evernote fleet of software to keep your life in order. Here is what we like.
- Amazing Versatility The ability to do amazing things is honestly limited only by wat you do not know what to do. The great features on desktop app, checkboxes, font colors, highlighting, and photos means you can do amazing stuff from your mobile device.
- Tags Galore Tags are on the desktop app, but I actually use it more on the iOS app to make the system more organized in my free time instead of in the hustle of doing writing and organizing on a desktop.
- Minimalism The selling point is not the whistles and the gadgets of Evernote. The one thing that Evernote does that all other apps have failed (except for the oh so tacky Notepad) is to utilize the screen size real estate well. I can see what I am writing as I type it, something no other good app can give me.
The Bad
In all of Evernote’s glory, there are several things that need to be updated for me to want to use it as much as I use the desktop version.
- Ugly Design Type in a note and everything is fine. Swing out to the bird’s eye view with “All Notes,” “Tags,” and “Places” and the structure of the design seems clunky. Makes me not want to leave the note area.
- Why Places I have yet to find a reason to have the Places tab in the iOS app. Maybe if I flew all over the world and only remembered notes by where I wrote them? It takes up too much value space.
- Security Is Premium? I understand that Evernote wants to make money of their services, but security should not be part of that money making. One terrible story that goes viral and Evernote could be in big trouble.
What do you like or hate about Evernote on iOS?
