YouVersion is, perhaps, one of the greatest technological gifts to Church, right behind Gutenberg’s printing press and red carpet. Not only does it offer multiple translations of the Bible in English but also in numerous other languages as well. Add to this the reading plans, notes, highlighting, and Scripture sharing functions, and you can see why YouVersion is so powerful!
And now, it’s more powerful than ever!
(Re)Introducing YouVersion Events
Previously known as YouVersion Live, YouVersion Events is a vastly improved way to help your church better engage in the worship service. You can set it up with a variety of comment segments that allow for Bible references, Bible reading planning, external links/giving links, images, announcements, and blocks of text. Here’s what I did for my first attempt:
Text Box – Order of Service
I’m setting this up for our Wednesday services, and this Wednesday is sort of a special event, so I wanted to make sure that everyone knew what we’re doing.
Image – Easter Branding
I’m hoping to have visitors for this special event, and I want the image to catch their eye in a way that a regular announcement box won’t.
Announcement – New Wednesday Night Classes
Wednesday nights have basically become a night of Sunday School classes…but actually good. Unlike SS which is inert and unchanging, our Wednesday nights rotate every few weeks, so I have to keep announcing what the new classes will be in the next session.
Announcement – Easter Service & Easter Egg Hunt
We’re having two services on Sunday, and when you change things, you never announce it enough.
Giving Link
Why not? My dad, a pastor with decades of experience, always used to put out fresh offering envelopes before every service. When I asked why, he said, “You’ll never net a harvest if you never scatter seed.”
For all of you visual learners, here are some screenshots of my event-in-progress, though I changed up the item order after I made these:
Go Forth, and Build!
YouVersion is pitching Events as a way to replace traditional printed bulletins. While I know that my church is years away from being able to pull that off, I do think that church plants, youth groups, and other services or ministries that target a younger audience could make this leap. Either way, it’s definitely a beneficial resource, I think I’ll be using it for my Wednesday night programming going forward.
But don’t take my word for it: try out Events for yourself.
