YouTube is coming out with a new web design for their site that has yet to be released to the general public. The design is a much softer visual design than before that has completely and deeply integrated with Google Plus and other social media networks.
Here’s how you can try it out:
At present, the trick only seems to work in Firefox and Chrome.
Open up your browser’s development tools:
In Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + K (Win) | Cmd + Shift + K (Mac)
In Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + J (Win) | or Cmd + Alt + J (Mac)Then add this string of delicious and nutritious code to the console:
document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU”;Close your development tools, then reload The YouTubes. Voila!
A fresh homepage for videos.
My Concerns
While I love this new look and social media integration into YouTube, it begs the question, “Which social network will Google invest in the most?” The hot new thing is Google Plus and the immediate call to Facebook and Twitter as social rivals. But if we look long term, Google needs to understand that video is already the next big thing. YouTube has the capacity to be Google Plus Plus.
What do you think of the new design?
Should Google put more effort into YouTube as a viable social media powerhouse?

That’s great, thanks. How did you find out about that?

Love it! I think they understood the power and potential of online video back when they bought YouTube. I also think they’ve built Google+ with that in mind.

Hopefully they integrate the two well, but this has the potential for serious disaster and they could alienate many YouTube users if not done well.
