Convert your WordPress site for the iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, Palm Pre, Samsung touch and BlackBerry Storm/Torch with one simple plugin.
WPtouch gives you admin options to customize its appearance without changing any code and affecting your normal theme. At the same time, it provides the option for visitors to switch between WPtouch view and your regular theme.
A free version is available, so you can download it and give it a try, and see if you like it.
The paid version of WPtouch opens up many more options.
- Web-App Mode
Deliver your website like a native application. When a mobile visitor bookmarks your site, it becomes available in standalone mode. Choose your home screen icon, loading image, and more. - Child Themes
Child theme your mobile version? Now we’re talkin’! - Full Menus
Full, half, or less. It’s all up to you. You can use your existing menu, or create a specific menu for WPtouch Pro. It also lets you associate icons to your menu items. - Advertising
You have to pay the bills, right!?! WPtouch supports Adsense, Admob and Custom Ads. - Statistics
Who’s using your mobile version? Find out! - Mobile Media
Native video and audio, YouTube, Vimeo, or embed h.264 video. WPtouch also supports the new HTML5 <video> tags. Size? Yes, WPtouch scales it automatically.
All of this, stuffed into a plugin.
Here’s the price breakdown:
So, if you need to convert your site to mobile, this might be just the solution for you.
Although I think flexible layouts are more practical, you can’t go rebuild every website, plus, not all designs flex well.
You can install the WPtouch plugin from within the WordPress dashboard, download it from the WordPress plugin repository, or purchase WPtouch Pro from the BraveNewCode website.

I’d love to hear if anyone has great examples of blogs using this plugin? Most times I see it used people have the default set up and it’s kind of drab. Has anyone seen a site that uses the WPTouch well and continues their brand in a mobile format?
Josh Collesano says
After reading this post I installed it on http://www.NRSMonline.com. I tweaked some settings, updated colors and even posted a header image (small I know but will coincide with our full sites header). I love it!
I’d love to hear your guys’ thoughts.
Adam Hann says
I like the colors and theming. Good job on that! For a mobile theme I think you are heading the right direction.
wvpv says
meh. let’s hear about flexible frameworks or a jQuery mobile solution instead.
Eric Dye says
I totally agree, however, this may be a good solution for those without the chops.
wvpv says
maybe I should have said let’s see some mobile themes that utilize a flexible CSS framework or jquery mobile.
where are those themes?
maybe a lack of mobile traffic to WP sites doesn’t warrant the coding?
Eric Dye says
I think the flex layouts and adaptation of web to mobile is still really in flux.
wvpv says
So I wonder if network speeds were, say, 9G, and access to a handset’s hardware features were standardized, if native apps would still be around.
Eric Dye says
Exactly! I don’t think so, unless handsets are always behind in the curve.

Maybe it’s just me, but I have no love for mobile sites. I have seen 2 (at most) that I have actually liked. One is Mashable’s mobile site, and the other I can’t remember. They just all lack in functionality and are generally aesthetically poor. I really hope someone comes up with a “game-changer” idea soon!
Eric Dye says
Don’t you think the game changer will come from the mobile devices getting better, oppose to creating sites that bend toward mobile?
DustinWStout says
Yes, I do.

By far the most effective and elegant mobile website that I have seen is that of The Huffington Post. You should check it out. I am a journalism student (but not a programmer or web designer), and I manage the website of my university’s student paper. I plan to use WPtouch for our mobile site because it is the best affordable, out-of-the-box option that I have found. However, I wish I had the chops (or access to someone with the chops) to produce something that approximates the HuffPost site.

i used wptouch but my branding elements were on low profile, so i tried to find something that let me display my branding elements and play ads. i used http://www.convertwebsite.com/ and i recommend this solution for those who want to convert their website for mobile devices that are using iOS, Android etc.

Wow. Wptouch is the best mobile theme I ever tested.
Awesome intuitive website user interface for iPhone.
Thanks for this informative article.
