Whenever I’m building a new WordPress site, there are a number of plugins that I always use, so the first phase of any web build is identical.
Here is a great plugin to speed-up the process of developing new WordPress websites by creating plugin profiles.
WP Install Profiles
First off, let me be clear: WP Install Profiles is a WordPress plugin that you run from your WordPress install.
There are two ways of creating your WordPress install profile:
- Add all the plugins of your choice from the WordPress Plugin Directory.
- Create a profile based on the plugins loaded on your WordPress install.
1. Plugins of Choice
When you’re creating a profile from scratch, simply get the slug from the WordPress Plugin Directory:
[Click for Larger]
And add them to your list (in the left-hand box pictured below).
After compiling your list, click the “Download plugins and safe profile” button.
Now, you can import your created file into any WordPress install you have WP Install Profiles installed on, and this set of plugins will be installed all at once.
2. Profile Based on Current Install
The second way of creating your WordPress install profile, is simply clicking the “Download the profile of this site” button (right-had side, pictured above). WP Install Profiles will take all the plugins on your current WordPress install and create a profile from it.
This is a great option when you want to replicate a setup from another site, or you want to migrate your local dev version to a live site.
Conclusion
WP Install Profiles is a handy little WordPress utility plugin that you can enable it when you want to use it and disable it (or delete it) when you’re finished.
Use this with a one-click install of WordPress on your server and a database backup/restore plugin, and you’ll have an easy way to bounce from local dev to a live server!
You can learn more about WP Install Profiles and download it directly from the WordPress Plugin Directory.
