Getting your feet wet with WordPress can be both exciting and overwhelming.
It’s awesome that there are so many resources out there, but that can also make it a little overwhelming; especially when you realize you’re reading a post that’s a few years old and you wonder if what’s being recommended is even accurate anymore.
There are a few places I’ve found over the years to be rock solid resources for WordPress, while many others have come and gone.
For those new to the WordPress game–those of you who consider yourself a WordPress beginner–here are a few resources and blogs to check-out (for those veterans, leave us your favorite resources in the comments):
WP Daily
If it’s 8BIT it’s got to be awesome, right? There has been a shortage of solid WordPress news and WP Daily fits the bill. This is where to turn for all WordPress news all the time.
WP Smashing Magazine
Smashing is another one of my favorites. Although the WordPress section is great, you’ll find their main stream top notch and useful. Smashing Magazine, check it out.
WPTuts+
This is owned by Envato Inc. which is top-notch. A great blog to follow for awesome how-to’s and tutorials. After all, it is called WPTuts+.
Tom Mcfarlin
Part of the 8BIT team, if you’re getting your elbows dirty in WordPress code, there’s no better resource. Practical application meets beautiful code standards.
CodePoet
I keep finding myself on the CodePoet site via Twitter and other links. It’s a blog by Automattic, so that might have something to do with it.
WordPress Codex
Don’t let the dryness of the WordPress “manual” keep you away. This should be your first place to go when figuring out what does what in WordPress. I’ve also find it helpful to start clicking around and let curiosity be your guide.
Yoast
If you’re sniffing around for SEO info, keep-up with Yoast. If you’re using an SEO plugin for WordPress, chances are you’re using Yoast’s, so you’ll find it to mix well.
Hello Dolly
If a podcast is your game, there’s no better (and regular) WordPress centric podcast for your ears. Again, this is 8BIT, officially providing resources that measure up to Automattic’s standards. Speaking of standards …
Standard Theme
This should be the first premium theme you should ever buy. Here’s why: Support. Is it well built and the perfect starting place to crafting your own WordPress site? Yes. But, it’s the support that makes all the difference.
WooThemes
Not only does WooThemes provide the best free eCommerce plugin, you’ll find them to have one of the best selections of premium themes. If you’re looking for quantity (without losing a lot of quality), Woo is the way to go.
Finally, if you dig lists like this–especially those that are WordPress related–subscribe to wpMail.me. It’s one of the few e-newsletters that I look forward to finding in my inbox.
Now, for those of you that have been around the WordPress Loop for a while, what’s your recommended resources for those breaking into WordPress?

I like WPBeginner – although it’s becoming primarily a resource for plugins.

I think WordPress is excellent for church websites that need simplicity but also scalability. wp-tuts is pretty good, but I think is a little more on the developer side. I do wordpress training and troubleshooting at wp-tutoring.com for those who need some one-on-one help.
