Some just can’t get their blog reading fast enough, and a number of people have heavily criticizes RSS for being too slow; some say RSS is dying (or is dead). I don’t really agree.
But, there is definitely value in real-time updating, especially if your industry or business demands it. WordPress, I believe, is going to be on the forefront of that movement, and thank goodness it’s open source.
Check out im.Wordpress.com for more information:
At im.wordpress.com we have been experimenting with instant delivery of blog posts and comments. Now you can subscribe to WordPress.com blogs in your Jabber IM client and receive posts and comments the instant they are published. It is also possible to post to blogs from the chat client.
In time we plan to add these real-time features to web pages. Soon the conversations on blogs will be as fast as chat rooms.
Is this the future? Sure it is. It is absolutely essential for all peoples? Probably not. Will the Church need to stay abreast of this technology as it matures? Most certainly, and you can bet I’ll be letting you know how it rolls.

This is why I like that you use twitter to announce blog posts. For many of the blogs that I use regularly I have subscribed to the related twitter feed and usually that is faster than rss. So I have already read it by the time I get to the rss. But I still want rss because if I miss it on twitter, or if I get behind and give up on twitter then I still have rss.

Ditto to Adam S. I get all my updates from you via twitter. I wonder what this new method will look like in practice, though.

Question to jump on the comments: It normally takes 5-6 hours for a blog post to migrate over to my reader, bloglines (I know..I know.. to hard to switch).
Is that bloglines fault, or the rss? Is google reader faster?
