WordPress 3.2 is here, and it’s hawt!
We had an idea of how great this next upgrade would be when we saw the Beta 2 version, but to see it in all it’s glory, chillin’ on your own WordPress site, is a whole other experience!
Kissing IE6 Goodbye!
The first thing that hit me was how crisp and clean 3.2 is. It’s subtle, but sweet. With the cleaner fonts and moving from grey to white in the background is a welcomed change. Considering how much time we spend in the back-end of our WordPress sites, it’s a nice change-up, indeed!
I knew the left nav would be changed-up, so it’s the little touches that really got my attention.
The smooth menu fly-outs and screen fade between Full Screen and Normal Post view are some of those nice touches that are brought by the absence of Internet Explorer 6 support and has made the Dashboard a whole new experience.
Faster Dashboard
It feels lighting fast, now. Honestly, the previous Dashboard was a real drag. The load time was painful in comparison to the 3.2 offering.
This is great!
New Full-Screen Writing Options
Despite closing 400+ tickets, it’s this kind of junk that gets me excited about a new release like this.
Full-Screen view has been totally redone:
Total Zen.
Don’t worry, though, you still have the link, image and typography tools. They show and hide naturally.
This new feature is a home run!
If you prefer Code view, that’s now an option, too:
Candy.
New Default Theme
They’ve raised the bar, again.
Your WordPress 3.2 upgrade will also include the new HTML5 ‘Twenty Eleven.’ After coming with the same default theme for years, it’s nice that WordPress is upgrading the pre-packaged theme, too. It’s stacked with enough options and funky features that will force premium theme builders to up their game.
Requirements
Before pressing the, “Please update now.” link, make sure you’re server is compliant!
WordPress requires:
- PHP 5.2.4
- MySQL 5
If you meet these minimum requirements, be sure to test your upgrade locally if you can, to make sure it doesn’t break or twist your theme and plugins.
WordPress 3.2 is here, and I love it!
What’s your favorite part of 3.2?

I’m a huge fan of the smoothness of navigating between modules. It definitely feels a bit snappier.
If only all CMS platforms were given the same kind of care and attention … 😉
