Do you use WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is a unique app in both function and philosophy. It “is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS.” The creators of WhatsApp doesn’t want to stop until “every single person the planet has an affordable and reliable way to communicate with friends and loved ones.”
Although there were purchased by Facebook for $19 billion in cash and stock, it’s clear the WhatsApp will continue to dominate—especially as they continue to press on with this kind of a philosophy!
Take a closer look at this curious company—I find the creators history particularly interesting, too:
I love this quote from Jan Koum:
“No one makes up excited to see more advertising, no one goes to sleep thinking about the ads they’ll see tomorrow.”
We should keep this in mind when it comes to ‘church marketing,’ too. Nobody wants to follow your social media account or subscribe to your newsletter if all they ever see is an ‘advertisement’—aka: A donation call to action.
When someone subscribes to your organization, try to figure out what kind of value you can offer the subscriber, follower or fan.
WhatsApp isn’t this successful after five years just because they found a niche to fill, but because of the philosophy and approach they’ve taken in establishing a sustainable and profitable model without compromising their core beliefs.
