This series of What’s In Your Bag? has contributors opening up their own tech bags and sharing with the world actual devices that they regularly use within their own blogging and professional lives from various backgrounds all over the world. The hope is that we can give you guys some great insight into some useful tools that we already are using in the day to day.
Here is what is in my bag in the photo above from the top-left to the bottom-right:
- 17″ MacBook Pro (early-2011) I will say that I am only three years into being a dedicated Mac lover and am by no means a die-hard, but this is my everyday device for computing, personally and professionally.
- EOS Canon T3i I am always shooting video for my own personal blog and my go to video camera is this trusty photographers’ standard device. It is currently holding the stock 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Type II Lens.
- RODE VideoMic Directional On-camera Microphone Ambient noise has been an issue when I have been filming for my ministry and blog so this was a must get for me.
- 16GB iPhone 4S on Verizon I am all in with Mac (including Apple TV which has been moderately wonderful) and while I will not try to get you to become an Apple fan too (the HTC One seems to be the best phone out there and the Galaxy S4 is killing it right now), I have no major complaints with my phone.
- Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Lens While I have not used this lens enough, it is a great option for long-range, tripod set photos and filming.
- MacBook Pro Powerpack My 2011 MacBook Pro does not have a great battery life (4 hours if lightly used and fully charged) and so I need to make sure I have the powerpack if I plan to use it for more than 30 minutes at a time.
- MacBook Pro Mini DisplayPort to HDMI I do not do VGA anymore because HDMI is so prevalent so I make sure I always have this converter on me at all times. (Many ministries I work with never have the converter on hand.)
- USB Cable IFC-200U Stock cable to get the photos and videos off the Canon T3i.
- Smith-Victor Corp P920 Tripod A super cheap and very effective tripod assuming little to no panning is required for filming.
Notably Missing
- 2 GB USB Drive It’s currently sitting at school but that is my non-cloud way of transferring files to other devices.
- MacBook Pro Mini DisplayPort to VGA Lost some time ago and never replaced because HDMI has been the display of choice.
- Kindle Reader I’m too embarrassed to take the picture with the Kindle in it because of the battery being dead, but it is in the bag of tech typically.
What’s in your bag?
Seth Rowoldt says
Great post man!
Currently in my bag is my
– 13″ Macbook Pro circa 2011 model
– plethora of usb jump drives ranging from 2GB – 30GB (I’m always having to load these out in some way or another)
– WD Passport 500GB (this is the portable kind and holds all my info!)
– iphone 4S with at&t
– An old Isaac Watts book of psalms, I read through when I have time on my hands
Would you recommend that mic for your camera? What size, version do you have? how much do those typically run? have been looking at getting something with better quality since I too use it for my go to video camera these days.
