Celebrating Christmas in Italy has been much different for my family than when we lived in the United States. It’s been five years, now, and our sixth Christmas overseas. Of all the things that I miss the most is the Christmas Eve candlelight service our church in the U.S. would have.
Hands down, my favorite Christmas Eve tradition!
After singing a classic Christmas carol/hymn, our pastor would read the Christmas story from the Bible.
And then it happened.
The entire congregation would gather around in a giant circle, light one candle, turn off the lights, and then light the candle to their left.
As we sang a Christmas song, the light would go from one candle to the next until all the candles were lit.
It. Was. Amazing.
The visual of seeing the light passed from one person to another and the room would become brighter and brighter.
I loved it. 🙂
What’s your favorite Christmas Eve tradition?
You gotta love technology…even if it’s candle. 😉
