The app gap between Android and iOS has shrunken considerably in the last several years, but there’s nothing like some highfalutin’, high profile app that takes its sweet time coming to Android to inevitably cause the re-opening of feelings of neglect and loneliness amongst Android OS users. Remember how it felt to longingly look over the shoulder of the iPhone-wielding person sitting beside you on the train or plane and seeing Netflix? Flipboard? Instagram? They came to Android… eventually.
Vine for Android?
Thankfully, Vine for Android is here, just slightly over a half-year after it debuted in the App Store. But who’s keeping count?
Vine is an awesome application that allows users to post 6-second, looping videos to Twitter. It allows for posting to Facebook as well, but the draw is that the app pulls its own feed, and connects to Twitter seamlessly. It uses hashtags just as Twitter aficionados will be used to, and, according to the Vine Blog, the Android iteration has some exclusive features, including zoom capabilities.
It has been a mobile tech feen favorite since its introduction on iOS, and the clamoring for it on other platforms has been loud and quite testy, so it is fun to finally have it and give it a try. Of course, the, uh, unsavory aspects of Vine may increase with more users, but I am really looking forward to actively using it, and seeing how church creatives are harnessing social networking half a dozen seconds at time: Stuff like this.
My young, ongoing foray has me liking the app so far; the setup is remarkably easy, and linking was done in seconds, as is finding folks on Twitter already connected to Vine… you know, people like Eric Dye.
But I have it now too. So there.
