ChurchMag 3.0

May 12, 2016
by Eric Dye

Phew!

After a feverish pitch these last few days, I am happy to introduce you to ChurchMag 3.0. ?

In April of 2014 we had released 2.0 – the 5th iteration of this blog – and the new logo at the start of 2016. With the new logo released there was a lot of pressure to get all of our branding aligned (you can hear more about this in ChurchMag Podcast #89). Factoring the rebranding with the fact that the 2.0 theme wouldn’t allow us to update Genesis, rebuilding the ChurchMag theme was a must.

In many ways, ChurchMag 3.0 is more about the code base then the visuals. While there have been a lot of changes visually, they are very subtle. The truth is, I really like the previous design, so it was more about refining and getting everything to be more cohesive with the new logo – fonts, spacing, etc…

There was also the need to make more room for things like the ChurchMag Podcast. Back in 2014 it was still an experiment, but now? Now it has it’s own space:

Click to visit.

This gives us a lot of potential and flexibility in the future as well.

And do you notice that you can search the podcasts?

Oh. Yes. Search.

Search Is Now Awesome

I’m still squishing some bugs, tweaking a few hooks, and making some minor CSS tweaks; while the new search and facet plugin are still indexing over 12-hours later. But all-in-all, the search capabilities within ChurchMag is much better.

Over the past few years, search capability has been the number one compliant. The ChurchMag search has seriously gone from zero to hero with the potential of becoming even more powerful over time and tweaking.

But What There’s More

ChurchMag is now fully HTTPS.

I’ll be writing about this and a few other things in the next few weeks. Jeremy has challenged me to write at least three more posts regarding the new site design. Moreover, I plan on updating and adding some pages regarding what plugins were are using, etc…

Feel free to ask any questions about ChurchMag 3.0, leave feedback, or just even give us a high-five in the comments below…

(Now it’s time for me to update ChurchMag Press and…something else?)

I know we don’t see everything on the backend with this refresh that you put so much effort into, but we love your work! Keep it up.
