Let’s say that you’ve got an idea. Let’s say this idea is to help people, locally or globally. Let’s say you need a web-service that’ll take advantage of the social web and online payment solutions for giving and fundraising.
Let’s say you don’t know how to do any of the last part.
And now, let’s say that I’ve found a potential solution:
Piryx is an easy, powerful and cost-effective way for non-profits and other organizations to raise money online through social media and traditional marketing channels.
Check out this very quick overview vid:
And here’s a look at the platform:
Neat!
Let me know if you plan on using this!

John — Thanks for the kind words. Piryx has had quite a bit of success with Churches with several hundred using our platform for online fundraising and social connectivity.
One of the most powerful aspects of Piryx is the GivingStream social commenting and sharing. This will get everyone in the congregation commenting about the mission — and then sharing their donations and thoughts with their social networks.
Also of interest to many churches is the ability to offer “I Support” and “My Cause” tabs to their members for their Facebook profiles.

thanks jonas!

Looks promising. Non-profits that are already using Drupal (or Joomla) might also look at the open source software CiviCRM. Some things I like about a program like CiviCRM would be lower transaction cost (though PayPal), flexibility in integrating with the rest of the web site, full CRM (constituent relationship management) tools including email marketing tool, member management, event management, donor management, etc.), and the ability to tie in other features/modules already offered through Drupal or Joomla. The downside is to run CiviCRM your own dedicated server or VPS is recommended (cheap shared hosting is not likely to work well) and configuration and setup is not necessarily easy.

Let’s see:
Charge Processor
4.75% http://www.razoo.com – BUT the fees for non-profits are refunded by foundation partners
4.5% http://www.piryx.com
2.2% + $0.30/transaction http://www.paypal.com non-profit rate
I guess that with piryx the NPO gets more web reporting and fancier widgets. They also do a great job of explaining how to incorporate their widget onto a Facebook fan page.
With paypal and razoo, one can setup recurring donations. I may be wrong but I didn’t see where piryx provided for recurring donations.

patrick,
sweet breakdown! thanks for that!

It looks like, beginning October 1, 2010, Razoo now has an even better agreement with USBank for a flat 2.9% per transaction fee. Also, I did see where Pyrix allows for recurring donations. All in all, both seem to be excellent resources for the non-profit looking to leverage online giving. Good find, John and thanks for facilitating discussion.
