Earlier this past Summer, I shared the awesomeness of Star Wars with my two youngest kids.
Here are a few tips I thought I would pass along:
- Watch them in the order of release: Episode IV, V and VI. Otherwise the impact of the last three episodes will be lost along with the curious intrigue that comes with the first three.
- Take your time with Episodes I, II and III. The first three episodes are a lot more intense then the older last three. Not only are the effects more intense, but the concepts are as well—not to mention that Episode III is PG-13.
- Don’t rush it! So your child is two or three years old? Do you think they’ll really enjoy it as much as if they watched it when they’re a little older? There are some really cool story lines that make Star Wars great that can be lost on your younger audience. Kids grow-up fast, so there’s no need to rush it any further. Once my boy saw Star Wars, Cars and other Pixar stuff lost some of its appeal, so bear that in mind.
Do you have any cool stories or tips from watching Star Wars with your kid for the first time?
My kids were seriously rocked with Luke and Vader’s connection. My littlest girl was pretty sure he was lying—LOL!

Funny…I’m reading this as my kids are watching Empire Strikes Back for the first time. A New Hope was a few weeks ago. Their ages are 10, 6, and 3.
One tip is that they had already been introduced to Star Wars via my original action figures and Legos.
Thanks for sharing.

It’s almost impossible, anymore. Most kids know some of Star Wars as it’s part of our culture. It’s to be expected. I am sure those action figures must have become really popular to play with after they watched the films. 😀

Well, after watching the movie last night, my 3 yo son went back upstairs, found the action figures, went hunting for the Darth Vader one, which we finally found, and proceeded to have a battle where Vader’s head should be cut off (based on the training scene with Yoda). The kids were totally confused as to how there were 2 Vaders and totally enthralled that Vader should be Luke’s father when Vader supposedly killed Luke’s father.

That’s awesome. 😀
